KATELYN FLORES
Building Immersive Experiences Through XR and Game Design
With over five years of professional experience in Unity development and more than eight years working with the engine overall, I create interactive experiences that blend technical execution with creative design. Professionally, I have built XR simulations focused on improving learning, engagement, and real-world readiness through immersive training environments. Outside of work, I pursue my passion for video game design by developing original projects ranging from psychological horror experiences to puzzle and exploration-driven games. My background spans gameplay systems, performance optimization, AI-driven interactions, and user-focused design, allowing me to build experiences that are both technically strong and genuinely engaging for players and learners alike.

01 // PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Building XR Experiences That Make a Difference
I approach Unity development as both a technical craft and a problem-solving discipline, with a strong focus on building meaningful XR experiences that create real impact for users. Throughout my career, I have worked on immersive healthcare training simulations designed to help students gain confidence, improve decision-making, and practice critical skills in environments where hands-on learning opportunities can be limited.
My experience includes leading projects from concept to release, collaborating across development, art, QA, and product teams, and delivering solutions under tight deadlines. I have specialized in building robust interactive systems, optimizing performance across devices such as HoloLens 2 and Meta Quest 3, and helping guide platform transitions to newer XR hardware while maintaining product quality and user experience.
I am also passionate about AI development within simulations. I have worked on conversational AI systems that improve realism and engagement by allowing learners to interact naturally with virtual patients, combining structured logic, response systems, and emerging language model technologies to create more immersive training scenarios.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy using personal projects to stay creative and continue learning. I’ve developed psychological horror games focused on atmosphere and puzzle design, experimented with advanced shader work to create stylized real-time visuals, and built interactive WebGL experiences that bring technical ideas to life directly in the browser. These projects allow me to explore new systems, sharpen my technical skills, and push creative boundaries.
What drives me most is seeing the direct effect technology can have on the student experience. Whether improving usability, increasing immersion, or helping learners feel more prepared in real-world situations, my goal is always to turn technical challenges into polished, intuitive experiences that make a difference.
